Parent Involvement

Parents can play many roles in sport: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents at socializing sports.  Please consider volunteering your time to help support your wrestler during the season.  The Club is always looking for more help in the training room and with our youth Tournament in March.

Verona Area Wrestling Club General Information

New to Wrestling?  Here are a couple frequently asked question from parents...

Q: Where are practices held?

ANS: The Youth Wrestling Club rents out the Verona Area High School's wrestling room for all practices.  The wrestling room is accessed from Door #17 of the High School which is the entrance to the field house.  As you enter go up the stairs and turn right towards the weight room.  Continue down the hall until you see the mat room on the right.

Q: When are Practices?

ANS: Practices are Monday and Wednesday evenings and are divded by age.  K-3rd Grade wrestles from 6:15 - 7:00pm and 4th -5th grade Wrestles from 7:00 - 8:15pm

Q: Do I really need a USA wrestling Card?

ANS: Short answer is yes.  In order to compete a USA Wrestling Card is required at all tournaments.  The card provides insurance coverage not only to the tournament host but also to your wrestler.  This includes coverage for any injuries that might happen during practice as well.  USA Wrestling's website has more information to further explain the benefits and coverage.

Q: What Equipment does my Wrestler need to purchase?

ANS:  The only thing your wrestler will truly need is a good pair of wrestling shoes.  Depending on age headgear is the only other piece of equipment needed as the club provides the rest.   Headgear is usually recommended for all wrestlers 4th grade and up.  For those new and not sure about wrestling the club has a number of hand me down, quality shoes wrestlers can use for the season.   The club happily accepts donations of shoes after the season as your wrestler grows.

Q: What Equipment does the Club Provide?

ANS: The Club will check out to each wrestler a team singlet and shorts to any wrestler wanting to compete in a tournament.  As well as a Verona Area Wrestling Club T-shirt which is yours to keep.
